Proper use of a mask is essential for ensuring effective protection. While masks help block airborne droplets, dust, and certain harmful particles, incorrect usage can compromise their protective capabilities. Therefore, paying attention to details during the selection, wearing, replacement, and disposal of masks is crucial to maximizing their protective function.
Before putting on a mask, clean your hands and inspect the packaging for integrity, as well as the mask itself for any damage, deformation, or contamination. Ensure the mask covers your mouth, nose, and chin, and adjust the nose strip to achieve a snug fit against your face, thereby minimizing air leakage around the edges. Avoid frequently touching the outer surface of the mask while wearing it-especially after going out or touching public surfaces-to prevent transferring contaminants onto the mask.
Replace masks promptly based on actual conditions. Prolonged reuse of disposable masks is not recommended; replace the mask immediately if it becomes damp, damaged, or contaminated, or if breathing resistance increases significantly. For reusable masks, follow the manufacturer's instructions for cleaning and maintenance to ensure protective performance is not compromised by improper use. Additionally, since different types of masks are suited to different environments, select the appropriate product based on air quality, workplace conditions, and specific protection requirements.
Proper technique is also required when removing a mask; avoid touching the outer layer directly and instead remove it by handling the ear loops. Dispose of used masks in accordance with relevant regulations; do not discard them casually in public places, as this can cause environmental pollution. When storing spare masks, keep the packaging intact and place them in a clean, dry area to protect them from dust and moisture.
