Face masks are common protective items in daily life; their primary function is to safeguard the respiratory system by reducing the inhalation of harmful airborne substances. By filtering out droplets, dust, bacteria, viruses, and certain pollutant particles, masks lower the likelihood of these substances entering the body. During periods when influenza or respiratory diseases are prevalent, wearing a mask not only protects the individual but also curbs the spread of droplets generated by coughing or sneezing, thereby reducing the risk of disease transmission among the population. Masks offer a valuable level of protection, particularly in crowded settings such as hospitals, public transport, and shopping malls.

Beyond preventing disease transmission, masks play a significant role in mitigating the impact of poor air quality. In areas with severe air pollution, the air may contain dust, pollen, and vehicle exhaust particles, all of which can irritate the respiratory tract upon prolonged inhalation. Wearing a suitable mask can filter out some of these airborne pollutants, thereby reducing irritation to the nasal passages and throat. For individuals sensitive to pollen, wearing a mask while outdoors can prevent pollen from entering the respiratory tract and alleviate symptoms of discomfort. Additionally, in environments with high dust levels-such as construction sites or during cleaning operations-masks help workers minimize dust inhalation and protect their health.

While masks provide a degree of protection, using them correctly is equally important. When selecting a mask, one should choose the appropriate type for the specific environment and ensure a snug fit against the face to avoid significant gaps. Users should avoid frequently touching the mask's surface while wearing it and should replace or dispose of it according to proper guidelines. Cultivating the habit of wearing masks correctly effectively enhances personal protection and contributes to the maintenance of public health.
